Portal 9 Publishing
In the walls and ramparts around nineteenth-century Beirut were seven fortified gates. As the town outgrew its enclosures, an eighth gate was added. Portal 9 is a new and imaginary opening into and out of Beirut, an intensive exploration of the urban condition, beginning in the Middle East and searching beyond.

Portal 9 pursues stories and critical writing about the city and creates accessible publications in both Arabic and English. We work with journalists, architects, photographers, critics, and designers to explore experimental and established ways of representing the beauty and the difficulty of living in cities. Having for the last several years published journal-style publications, Portal 9 Publishing is now focused on making books to which we are dedicated from concept phase through writing and editing to printing and distribution. We are always open to meeting new collaborators who share our craving for a conscientious debate about architecture, planning, culture, and society in urban contexts across the Middle East and the rest of the world.
